KCRC's Learn-to-Row Session starts on land with our experienced Club volunteers. Initial coaching focuses on teaching the students about the boats, the oars, common terminology, and general safety procedures. During the last hour of the 2.5-hour Learn-to-Row session, students are grouped by three with an experienced rower and sent out in a boat to learn the basics of the rowing stroke from KCRC coaching staff.

Learn-to-Row graduates choosing to continue learning the sport are encouraged to enroll in any of the four-week Beginner Clinics offered by KCRC.

KCRC Beginner Clinic instruction will include a thorough introduction to the sport, its equipment, its terminology, and standard safety procedures. Boat handling and the basic rowing strokes are taught by experienced Club volunteers. After the first week, much time is spent in boats working on refining technique, as well as the team aspects of the sport. No experience is necessary.

Upon successful completion of a clinic, the rower is eligible to join KCRC and participate in regularly scheduled captained rows with the other masters. Clinic registration fees include KCRC membership for the current season. Rowers wishing to continue are welcome to join the club as novice rowers.
